Course Content

Creative interventions in supervision: An integration of theories and methods

This module is designed to explore a range of creative interventions taken from art, metaphor, puppetry, story telling, journal writing, drama therapy, and sandplay.  Its purpose is to expand the students awareness of the range of possibilities open to them in their way of working with clients whilst at the same time enabling then to critically assess why they have chosen one rather than another in each case.  This work is based on influences of art therapy, psychodrama, drama therapy, psychosynthesis and writing therapy other influences come from Jungian and Gestalt applications.

The relationship in supervision – a developmental perspective

This module emphasises the subtlety of relational building within supervision. It combines the elements of enquiry which is a process of open ended questioning, attunement, which is a multifaceted process of matching the needs of the client and involvement which includes a quality of presence within the therapeutic relationship.  This is based on the integrative work of Richard Erskine and involves elements from Transactional Analysis, Object Relations and Gestalt.   It is a particular form of emotional intelligence. It looks at how supervisors track monitor and adapt their interventions to the learning of the developmental stage of the supervisees. It enables supervisors to facilitate transitions in the professional lives for practitioners in the helping professions particularly in the journey from novice to qualified practitioner: the journey from dependency to autonomy.

Introduction to group, team and organisational supervision

This module is based on principles of group supervision and the challenges and skills needed in supervising in organisational settings and supervising   organisational consultants and coaches.
