MA Supervision

Overview

This programme is aimed at senior practitioners from a range of professions, including social workers, GP mentors, counsellors, coaches, arts therapists, psychotherapists and CAM’s practitioners. It provides education for learning in meta-perspectives, which are both cognitive maps and based in specialist skills and interventions. The purpose of the programme is to enable the development of mastery in ethical practice. Supervision is a profession in its own right, combining the best of education, mentoring, evaluation, reflection and the development of best practice.

Programme Philosophy

The philosophy underpinning both the structure and foundation of this course is based on supporting professionals in delivering an ethical service and resourcing practitioners with well-researched and current methods of solving and defining problems.

Supervision provides a forum for reflective practice so the ethos is collegial and dialogic.  Supervision has a number of functions, including monitoring and evaluating as well as informing and facilitating self-reflection.

Thus the philosophical underpinning of the course includes an emphasis on learning, on facilitating relationships to enable that to take place as well as concepts, models and meta-perspectives. It focuses on the ethical significance for professional practice of high quality supervision, and how this pertains to all fields from the law, teaching, medicine, social work, counselling and coaching. Reflective practice is essential for the safety of client and practitioner.
