Workshop Description
While Asperger’s Syndrome has been increasing in public and professional awareness over the past twenty years, there is still considerable uncertainty surrounding AS even at the core level of ‘what is it?’ Participants will be able to explore Asperger’s and its implications for the individual with AS with the aid of case studies.
This workshop is suitable for people with no to medium experience of adults with Asperger’s Syndrome, and will look at AS on a theoretical and practical level.
Topics that will be included in the workshop are:
·what is – and is not – Asperger’s Syndrome
·identification issues and seeking a diagnosis
·common co-morbid issues
·sensory experiences
·cognitive styles
·behaviours
·dealing with the past and present
·working with adults with Asperger’s Syndrome

Hazel Went manages the University of Exeter’s Disability Resource Centre, and has been working with students and young adults with Asperger’s Syndrome for over ten years.
