Workshop Description

By the end of the day you should be able to describe what is meant by Equality and Diversity and how it is integrated into everything we do as well as how legislation plays its part in ensuring equal treatment and in addressing discrimination.

We should be able to see how we may be responsible for acts of discrimination, and to reflect on how we can act differently and how our perceptions and the perceptions of others may influence how we act with others and how they act with us.

This day should give us an opportunity to explore our own ideas about Equality and Diversity and some of the misconceptions that may have developed. The aim of the day is to be able to explain what Equality and Diversity means and how discrimination can impact not just on the individual but on the wider community as well.
By the end of the day we should be able to:
➢ Say what is meant by Equality and Diversity
➢ Describe the differences between terms such as Equal Opportunities, Diversity, Harassment, Discrimination and Victimization.
➢ Describe the 6 areas of discrimination: age, disability, race, faith/religion, gender and sexuality.
➢ Show how legislation attempts to protect groups/individuals from actions of discrimination
➢ Recognize, in action, Direct Discrimination, Indirect Discrimination and Positive Action
➢ Recognize how language may play a part in discriminatory behavior.
It also explores how perceptions can influence our actions and the actions of others and how this may be perceived as discriminatory.
