Job title:
 Iron Mill Counselling Service Coordinator and CPD Coordinator.

Areas of responsibility: Running and developing the Iron Mill Counselling Service, as well as the college's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme and Tailor-Made Training service.
Profile: Whilst training at Iron Mill College, James became a passionate believer in making the benefits of counselling genuinely accessible to as many people as possible. As a qualified counsellor, he was delighted to be able to take on the day to day running of the Iron Mill Counselling Service in September 2017. The service offers affordable counselling to the general public and the opportunity for students of the College to work with real clients in a safe and ethical way. James also coordinates the delivery of the College's CPD programme and its bespoke, tailor-made training for businesses and organisations.

Prior to joining the staff team at Iron Mill, James had a twenty year career as an ecologist and environmental educator. He still feels passionately about the natural world and is an aspiring landscape and wildlife photographer. James is also developing his own private counselling practice.

Fred Hawkins - College Enquiries and Facilities OfficerFred Hawkins 

Job title:
 College Enquiries and Student Services Officer.


Areas of responsibility: Course and general enquiries, and the central point of contact for all enrolled students.

Profile: Fred has been part of the Iron Mill team since January 2008 and has fulfilled a wide variety of roles in that time. Fred’s current role as College Enquiries and Student Services Officer sees him as the first point of contact for all visitors and enquiries to the Iron Mill, providing up-to-date information and liaising with other departments in order to meet any requirements. Fred is also the first port of call for all of our current students, assisting in a variety of ways to ensure an enjoyable experience at Iron Mill College.

Fred has previously worked in the hospitality industry in the UK and Australia, and is currently studying a BA (Hons) Degree in Humanities, specialising in English Language and History. 

Amanda Murrell - Academic AdministratorAmanda Murrell

Job title:
 Academic Administrator and Administration Team Manager.

Areas of responsibility: Admissions, Learning Support, HE Programme Administrator, academic liaison and management of the college Administration Team.

Amanda joined the Iron Mill College team in January 2016 and her role includes processing applications for all the college’s courses and co-ordinating the college’s Learning Support service. Amanda is also the Programme Administrator for all the Higher Education courses offered by Iron Mill College and validated by the University of Worcester. In August 2018, Amanda became the college’s Administration Team Manager.

Before joining Iron Mill College, Amanda worked as a primary school teacher. She has previously worked as a housing manager, tenant advice worker and university administrator in London, East Anglia and Devon. Her qualifications include a BA (Hons) Degree in Philosophy.

David Neale - Student Services and IT OfficerDavid Neale

Job title:
 IT and Facilities Officer.

Areas of responsibility: Support for students from sign up to graduation and maintenance and development of IT systems and applications.

David has been with the Iron Mill College team since February 2009 and is currently responsible for all aspects of college provision for enrolled students across all courses. David’s role also involves the development and coordination of IT services in line with college strategy. This includes providing IT training and support as necessary to students and staff.

Before joining the Iron Mill College team, David worked for a large multi-national company where he was responsible for the company’s voice communication infrastructure. He is currently studying with the Open University for a Degree (BSc) in ICT and Design.

Jana Collins

Job title:
 Student Placement Coordinator.

Areas of responsibility: Coordinating student counselling placements, both internally and externally.

Profile: Jana grew up in Prague and lived in Washington, D.C. before settling in England over a decade ago. Whilst studying Psychology, she was a ChildLine volunteer which inspired her to eventually train as a counsellor at the Iron Mill College. She has also served as a voluntary counsellor for a low-cost counselling service in Exeter. In her therapeutic work, Jana enjoys working creatively and applying concepts of acceptance, mindfulness and compassion. Over the years, she has had the privilege to witness first-hand how counselling positively changes lives.

Jana lives with her husband and their three cats in East Devon. She has an interest in Buddhist teachings and travelling to experience different cultures. She likes cooking from scratch, making something out of nothing. In her spare time, you will find Jana walking along the coast or in a forest.

Liz Cordin

Job title: College Administrative Support Officer.

Areas of responsibility: Welcoming visitors and students to the college, reception work, taking bookings, data processing and general office duties; and participating in duties supporting the running of the college office.

Profile: Liz joined the team in February 2019. She grew up in London but moved to Devon over thirty years ago to study at Rolle College and never moved back. Working for Devon Libraries gave Liz the chance to connect with many people who needed to talk in a deeper way. So she came to Iron Mill as a student to study the Counselling Certificate and then the Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. She works for a low-cost counselling service in Exeter and is also developing her own private practice.

Liz lives with her fiancé, a dog and two cats in Exeter. She loves cooking, crafting, and being out with her dog by the water or in the woods.
