Welcome to the Iron Mill Institute website. We are a professional training institute based in Devon in the South-West of England and have been established for nearly 30 years. We offer a range of professionally accredited training in the fields of counselling, psychotherapy, supervision and coaching. We also have a rich and varied continuing professional development programme (CPD) available to the qualified professional or for those just wanting to sample what we offer.

TASTER DAYS
These one day workshops are offered several times throughout the year and allow you to come and see what the full programmes have to offer.
They are priced at just £50 (inc VAT) and this amount will be deducted from your course fees should you decide to continue onto a programme. The following days are available:

MASTERS PROGRAMMES
We have now developed several Masters programmes in conjunction with Worcester University, the following programmes have already been validated:

COUNSELLING TRAINING
Includes communication and listening skills, stress management, Transactional Analysis (TA), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), student centred learning, Heron’s Six Category Intervention Analysis
Includes TA, Gestalt, NLP, Seven Level Model, Existential and Humanistic counselling, Systems theory, myths, archetypes and the transpersonal, drugs and alcohol, racism, sexual abuse, eating disorders and other specialist areas.
The differing attachment styles of young people and how attachment or the lack of it helps to formulate their internal working models. Young people’s relationships and how they impact upon their lives. Counselling young people and the law. The Children Act. Models of Counselling Creative interventions: The use of Sand Play, Psychodrama, Dramatherapy. Music and Art therapy. Working with Dreams and Guided Imagery and the creative use of Fairy Tales. The influence Youth culture has on young people. Peer group counselling. Working within schools and private practice. Bereavement/Sexual Abuse/School Phobia/Bullying
PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING
Includes archaic child ego states, parent introjects, integrated adult, scripts, games and rackets, self perpetuating strategies, strokes, time structuring, group dynamics, contracting and application of TA, autonomy and cure.
Human development, attachment theory, the neuroscience of attachment, creating coherent narratives and the role of memory, research and psychotherapy, transference and countertransference, relational TA, the therapeutic relationship - principles and practice, working with groups, TA techniques in practice.
Introduction to DSM IV (R), risk assessment and treatment planning, the Cathexis School of TA, the Redecision School of TA, TA as a brief therapy, using supervision effectively, pharmacology and the mental health system, ethical dilemmas, working with diversity, the politics of psychotherapy.
Integrative TA, the 7 Level Model, the transpersonal, myths and archetypes, mindfulness, creative interventions, the development of personality and self-concept, disorders of the self, working with childhood trauma, working with shame, personality adaptions.

SUPERVISION TRAINING
Introduction to supervision, models and frameworks of supervision, practising ethical supervision
Creative interventions in supervision, relationship in supervision, introduction to group, team and organisational supervision.
