Working at the Edges: Birth of a Soldier
" where personal pain meets collective upheaval, and where therapeutic presence becomes both an anchor and a catalyst for resilience."
These are words written by our Academic Director Rachel Wood from our summary of the conference theme. Perhaps there is no starker meeting of the personal and the collective when a nation goes to war. War is a time when we meet the worse parts of humanity and perhaps on occasion the best. I am bringing an account that is personal as well as being representative of the collective. This is a description of how a supervisee and colleague of mine - a man who is a psychotherapist, supervisor and leader transitioned from being a psychotherapist, to being a solider.
